In this assignment I try to add some data visualization into my project. I decided to use the Spotify web api.
First I googled “Spotify JSON api” and got myself into the Spotify developer website. They have a tutorial for api which is for html and I basically had no idea what it is about. Then I went to the reference page and found queries that were very similar to what we looked at in the class. And I tried to go to the urls and successfully got the JSON data.
Then I followed the codes of New York Times offered by Professor Shiffman and managed to create a page like this:
If you type in a name and press search, it will search it in the Spotify artists database and open the page of the first result. The Spotify web api also provides a variety of usages. I’ll dive into it later.
Also recently we visited two design studios: Second Story and Rockwell Group. Both of them make very fascinating works in interactive designs. Second Story mainly focuses on display designs whereas Rockwell is an architect company.
One thing that surprises me about the designing process is that the designers are both artists and programmers themselves. The creative technologists handle both the art work and the coding process. I initially expected they have different positions with different jobs but it turned out that the employees are all versatile.
The project I like most the display in Second Story with the transparent LED display. It was the first time I saw a transparent display screen and I believe that it would be the mainstream technology applied on smartphones and computers in the future.
